The hot topic on everyone's minds is sustainability as it relates to everything we consume - but especially in the realm of cosmetics. While many people immediately think about packaging and waste, sustainability starts at the supply chain level.
Now more than ever, consumers want to know that they can trust that their favorite companies are being transparent; that their morals align with where they are spending their money. Consumers are well educated and want to support "purposeful beauty" where they are purchasing more than just a product they love, but are also reducing their carbon footprint and supporting sustainable sourcing and local communities.
While products need to perform, purposeful beauty is about responsible agriculture and respecting the earth, supporting the farmers and the individuals procuring precious ingredients, and reducing carbon footprints from seed to seal.
At Bella Aura Skincare, we work directly with argan farmers in Morocco who select the top quality argan kernels to be turned into oil and emulsified into our products. Because of the challenges in extracting argan kernels from within the nuts, this task is done by hand, and usually by women. Working directly with the farmers allows us to support the local community while simultaneously securing the most fresh, potent, antioxidant-rich argan for our products. It's a win-win situation both for those who harvest the argan, and for you as the consumer.
In addition to working with argan farmers, our Swiss cosmetic active ingredient supplier acknowledges its responsibility to uphold the UN's sustainable development goals (SDG). They take great care to ensure that the development of our active ingredients follow sustainable sourcing, responsible production, and are readily biodegradable. Furthermore, life-cycle assessment technique is used to calculate the CO2 produced throughout the entire supply chain. They work to make sure our active ingredients are carbon neutral while simultaneously providing a dignified life for others by bringing clean drinking water, clean energy and light, and protecting forest diversity - which is critical for life on our planet
It's estimated that 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year in the cosmetics industry which will inevitably make its way to the landfill. At Bella Aura, we strive to utilize eco-friendly packaging both in our unique black glass bottles which are produced in Italy and in our minimalistic shipping practices. We also use biodegradable packing peanuts made from starch. These are easily reusable for packaging other items, or simply dissolve them in a sink (which is ultra satisfying).
The best antidote to overconsumption and waste is to reduce the number of products used in your routine. That's why we create multi-functional products that will cut down on the number of steps in your routine and the number of bottles on your shelf. We don't make products on a whim; everything in our line is crafted and curated with great intention and respect for the planet and its inhabitants.
We want you to have your best skin ever - and to feel good about it, too.
