Hyaluronic Acid vs Levan

Hyaluronic Acid vs Levan
We believe in the intersection between science + Nature. We utilize all the magnificence that science gives us while embracing ancient traditions within the plant medicine of our ancestors.

We want to dive into some of the less talked about ingredients. Important ones. That you often see in their synthetic state and yet can be derived from natural sources with more effective and gentle power.

Hyaluronic Acid vs Levan which is an alternative to Hyaluronic Acid.

You will often see Hyaluronic acid marketed at boosting hydration levels in skin. Yet, it can dry your skin in arid climates or if you spend most of your time indoors, as the acid finds it easier to pull moisture from skin instead. If you're applying hyaluronic acid to a very dry face, it can actually end up drawing moisture from the deeper levels of your skin, which in turn will cause more harm than good and leave your complexion feeling tight and uncomfortable.

Clearly not an ingredient suitable for everyone. Our formulators saw and understand the power of Hyaluronic acid but aimed to find a more natural ingredient that mimicked the healing qualities of HA but without the downfalls. In steps Levan.

Sugar cane is the source of sucrose, the raw material for the fermentative extraction of levan.  Levan was originally developed as a food additive and stimulates the intestinal flora to increase well-being. Levan also has exceptional cosmetic properties as it provides moisture (comparable to that of hyaluronic acid) and also soothes skin irritations. Its cohesive and adhesive properties as a film former and bonding agent are particularly interesting.

The large chain length with many branches ensures strong cohesion amongst the molecules, as well as strong cohesion with the adjoining boundary surfaces. This and the increased supply of moisture leads to a tightening and strengthening of the skin as well as to a reduction in the first signs of skin ageing, whereupon the development and depth of small wrinkles, for example, are reduced.

When nature meets science, magic begins. We truly believe this. Are there any ingredients you are curious to learn more about? Let us know. We want to be a source of education and exploration always.
